I remember waking up, ready to have a super day because it's Greg's birthday today & he came in the bedroom & said "They're blowing up New York". We watched TV instead of having a great birthday & I refused to cancel my trip to NY which was two weeks later. I wish i had made my Old Man's birthday 10 years ago better but so much tragedy overwhelmed one man's day. So much so, that I say "Never again will I allow 9/11 make me put the importance of the people I love who were born on 9/11 after the sadness of the lives taken on that day." Happy Birthday Greg & Leah! I'm sorry you got screwed by 9/11. I went to Manhattan two weeks later w my friend, Mark K. The generosity & many incredible memorials we encountered was simply staggering and that's why I will always ♥ NY.

I Don't Love New York?

As I sit here w/ my coffee & a l'il toke while I watch the Pride Parade, I try to figure out why I have mixed feelings about New York legalizing "it" before California. I've come to the conclusion it's embarrassment that we didn't do it first. "It's Raining Men" isn't part of New York's top 5. San Francisco is gay Christmas every day, all the time. But SF is not California. Since envy is a bitter and dangerous pill, I'm letting it go and thanking New York for illuminating the way for every gay couple to experience the beautiful love story, with its related joys and baggage, called "marriage" that all us "lucky" and "clear headed" heteros have been enjoying since some white guys who were the only ones allowed on the scene, legislated it as such.

P.S. If you know why Michelle Meow is the superior "local celebrity" choice for hosting the SF Pride telecast, I'd love to hear why.

Greg was in a cycling accident at the Polo Fields and here are some of the photos of his initial traumatic head injury (Which also knocked out some teeth!). Whilst in the ER, a CT Scan revealed kidney cancer. We are applying with Kickstarter to fund a documentary about the diagnosis, treatment and recovery from cancer and from the public health system in San Francisco, which has already proved to be difficult and painful. Greg works at a record store.

The above picture from the ER is of particular interest because Greg's arm is freaking HUGE. It is huge because either saline or contrast medium has been allowed to drip directly into the tissue of his arm. His arms are quite thin in real life and it took nearly three days for the arm to begin to shrink. Maybe later I'll post a pic of his arms at their normal size, though he is losing muscle mass at an alarming rate due to his soft food diet & perhaps the cancer diagnosis.

Note: I wrote this about 2 weeks ago, ( but added the Venn diagram today) but decided not to publish it because I seriously thought the bile would neutralize itself. Guess not, so here it is.

What's all this noise about an Islamic Community Center going up in Manhattan? It's a community center & it's not on Ground Zero. Even if it was, why would it matter? Manhattan is such a melting pot of people and some of them are Muslim. We don't give Warren Jeffs nearly as much shit, and he hasn't eaten nearly enough shit. I'm liking that the Veterans seem to get it. Liking it A LOT that the dancers get it. It appears that our thinly veiled "tolerance" is giving way to fear and ignorance at an alarming rate. The notion that the President is Muslim is an egregious show of fear and bull shit. I know the middle class is frightened to death the changing norms, like so much sand slipping through their fingers, but an Islamic Community Center does not a terrorist make. Nor does a President who upholds the right to worship & chooses to worship quietly. Why should the citizens dictate the appropriate way for any President, or other citizen, to worship? Emotion can not strangle a Constitutional right.

It appears that the prayer space is already there. The pending construction is to expand what's already there with a community space, a swimming pool and other common features that provide needed services in an urban environment.

It seems the change is coming too rapidly for most, and not fast enough for some. There's a lot of shit going on but this is not the time to lose our cool, people...if that's even possible. The other thing that's puzzling to me is the lack of support for stimulating the economy. The Cordoba Initiative already owns the building, the plans have been approved. There's enough support for this idea that they were able to purchase a 5 story building on Park Ave. Now they would like to use the building they bought. So simple.

Hey Rosetta is a quietly intense band from Canada that features a violin and cello. They should turn the string section up because I think they sounded good, but would have been better with louder strings. Otherwise, I thought they were Irish. Mainly because there was a guy in the audience who was so fucking stoked to be seeing this band, it reminded me of the first time I saw Keyboard Cat. He got a few pints of Guinness down before asking for an autograph on his 7". I love his enthusiasm & the zeal these micks & their fans exhibit.

The 22-20's didn't play enough of their songs featured on foreign commercials that are very catchy, indeed. They did play the songs from their new record "shake/shiver/moan". This is the much anticipated follow up material to their initial outing of raw, excitable blues. Then they broke up. Then they got back together after having real jobs as stated in this interview/performance on UStream. Now various & sundry members are back to tear it up stateside. And boy did they! I have to say hearing Hot Hot Heat live was like pouring medium size chunks of broken glass into my ears. The singer's voice is so ill angled & well projected, it can't get into my ear holes. I was searching porn for "Molly Morrison", since this is the pseudonym of "internet celebrity" Amor Hilton. [Not a particularly scortching scene, but different. I want to know what's going on, I want to know what's out there...I'm a well rounded person...and boy was I surprised to find "Female Friendly" on a well travelled porn site. "Alright! Let's see what is friendly to females these days." Lemme tell you, it's nothing to copy, paste & click home about. I noted a clip called "Spoiled Brats Tan and Smoke". "So Hot!! I'm damp in the basement for that, for sure." I was offended that the content was considered friendly to females. It is exactly the same thing, ordered and distributed the same way as always. I'm not surprised the same things that generally appeal to women, generally appeal to men, so in that regard, I don't understand why a new category was even created. I have definitely seen "she-centric" porn and surely support the concept, but that wasn't what this category contained. From a marketing perspective, it's a fail because any woman seeking something friendly need only take a quick glance to see that the material is not different, nor friendly as evidenced by the ad clip of a woman being "forced" at the bottom of the page. Again, I'm not judging the content or those who like it, just that it's questionably labeled. I cannot imagine that there's someone actively looking at the material and saying "This would turn a woman on." In fact, I think it's a miniscule fraction of the adult industry that does ask this question. I applaud Howard Stern's recent Penthouse Pet interview where the gals admit porn is acting. I didn't need the Pets to tell me that most ladies can be remarkably talented actresses when the situation dictates, and not just the pron ones, but it's always nice to have 3rd party verification of my beliefs.

An American Podium Girl in France, 4th of July Edition

Today is the 2nd day of the Tour de France and the Fourth of July. To honor our country I'd like to tell you about Laura Antoine from St. Louis, Missouri. She's the only American girl I know of to be a podium girl/hostess for the Tour. She was also a sexy dancer at some of those clubs in Paris...actually pretty good credentials. So yay America!... Representing at the 2009 TDF, and other Grand Tours, with our very own podium girl. Truly a great American. I applaud her for not having fake tits. Way to represent with a little class & natural beauty!

The above picture is not of her, but it's an example of what can happpen to podium girls. That's not the typical scenario, but I just love the picture. The composition, the action, the way she's off balance. It just has everything. Like Football in the Groin.

My favorite stage ceremony this year is King of the Mountain based on the haute couture dresses the podium girls are wearing. It's also the polka dot jersey, and the dresses are also polka dot, so of course, I love it. I'll post a pic of the dress when they start posting them.

I am not the only one who has an interest in podium girls. Here's a forum from Cycling News devoted to the topic and here's a link to archived podium girl photo galleries. Great places to check the evolution of the podium girl and the fashion. There's also a sub group that are the equivalent of booth babes that just take pictures with the products, fans and merchandise. California is most known in the sub category for the The Specialized Angel. They mostly look like a better version of the girl next door with spray tans, wings and blonde hair, so I'm not going to waste a lot of time on this because they have less to do with cycling and more to do with jerking off & advertising. There are different iterations of the Specialized Angel.

Update: Laura Antoine is also a podium girl in the 2010 Tour. Just saw her presenting the Best Young Rider (yummers!) jersey to Andy Schleck (also Yummers) in Stage 7. This is also not the only time she's presented Best Young Rider to Andy Schleck. If I were her, I'd try like hell to tap that.

If a single American makes the decision that they don't want to be parent, that it's part of the problem, that the time is not right, or that for any other reason that their pregnancy should be terminated within the confines of the law, YAY! Now that's an old arguement, but I'm stressing the "American" in this case because no other country will generate a population that is so wasteful and resource intensive throughout the duration of their lifetime. What is it with this middle class notion that you have a "God given" right to have 2.5 kids and a house? What is this sense of entitlement and ownership? I'd even say the government is going way too far to support this ongoing, unsustainable fiction. Biodiversity is globally decreasing and species are becoming extinct due to diminishing resources. Extinction is everywhere & increasing at an alarming rate, but the cult of motherhood/babymaking is overpowering the logical thought process of survival of species. Just as well, maybe.

I'm not just talking out of my ass here. I have a friend from Niger, and he has six kids. However, I know all his kids, in their entire lives, will consume less resources than I already have and I'm not much of a consumer. They are part of a nomadic tribe, they carry their worldly possessions with them and they hope to one day complete the well they started drilling. And when my friend is here, he misses home.

I am an Aunt. I like kids & I love my Nephew dearly and there is nothing I would not do for him, but if there is even one American who decides parenthood is not for them, leave it alone for fuck's sake. I have friends with children and without and I love 'em all. It's a personal, ethical & lifestyle decision that each person lives with. I do not want to really get into the other obvious and numerous contradictions of pro-life v. less taxation, cuts to TANF, childcare issues, housing issues, unemployment, overpopulation, institutionalized poverty, institutionalized racism, fuel deficiency, financial collapse, child abuse rates, etc., so I won't, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see how weak and short sighted the arguement is. I'm just sorry that feminism has not evolved enough for American women to feel "whole" without producing a child from their own womb. The feminist proposal that women can be educated, do "anything" and be independent falls terribly flat when society continues to perpetuate, spoken or unspoken, the outdated and sexist belief that women without children are damaged, faulty, undesireable, selfish or are otherwise simply "old maids". Women have an inherent worth as humans, not just baby machines. Weak! We can do better for our women, Sarah. Move forward, damn it.

If I had more time, I'd take Meg Whitman to task, but I'm busy right now.

KFC Doubles Down, WINS!!

The KFC Double Down is a food item consisting of two fried chicken breasts, some form of "melty, spicy cheese" and Swiss, and 2 strips of bacon. It also comes in a grilled format, but really now, that's like offering "vodka lite" to a stone alky. It's not what you're there for & I predict an early demise for the grilled version. The price point is a little high @ $5.49, for my fast food budget, so I consider it a "special occasion" item & in fact, I only got it because my partner in the race to a stroke bought it for me as a surprise study break. DELIGHTFUL!!! The KFC is about 5 min. by bike from my hidey hole and it arrived crisp and warm. I can only imagine it would have been about 10 times better if it were eaten "in house". However, it was great. The chicken wasn't overly greasy, the consistency of the melty cheese, which seemed to be the primary binding agent, reminded me of school cafeteria cheese but this was not unexpected. When you eat KFC, you eat KFC. The bacon was crispy and well defined. The Swiss was also remarkably well defined given its station in life. I did not feel ill at any point and could only really feel loved the entire time. Notably, there was a polite paper wrapper that was helpful and not a shred of vegetable to be found. If you have little kids or are in charge of any kids, this is not for them, not because of it's delicious high fat content, but because they can't handle it. Unless you've actually seen them eat two breasts and then some w/ your own eyes, forget it. Those babies won't be able to finish this and will only make it too gross for you to eat. That's what chicken strips or nuggets are for. Bon appetite!!

Not to take anything away from National Coming Out Day, but maybe we can add to it. People who eat KFC should come out in a big way on NCOD. Seems like anyone can come out as gay and be accepted, but how many secret KFC lovers are continuing to live a lie? Between Couture Food and Slow Food, the connisseur's of Fried exist in the culinary back alley. Well no longer, I say. I eat Fried.

I'm pretty hot for Lady Gaga's artistic vision and her constant attention to her presentation as if she were not a biological woman and this video really makes me like her more. It makes me wish Beyonce was always styled by someone other than her Mom. I like everything about this homage to dangerous women. I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse that Gaga has made Beyonce relevant, if even for a few precious video moments. It also really reminds me how impressed I was upon seeing a car back out of its driveway across 3 lanes of San Francisco traffic to get to the left turn lane. I've been so busy. Anyway, yeah. Happy New Year. The only way is up...or at least a horizontal line.

Since I've been travelling to family oriented events, I've been watching some TV. I saw the Golden Globe Awards and was properly impressed. I thought Mo'nique was very sincere. So despite Mariah Carey, I thought I should see Precious. Two things: Though Mo'nique's performance was pretty insane, they gave the award to the wrong lady AND Mariah Carey looks so much better without makeup. It was also surprisingly accurate that she was cast as a social worker. She found a role that met her at her level. But she is not at all the reason to see this.

If you didn't get the memo, I'm saying "two thousand ten", not "twenty ten".

After watching the new Massive Attack "Paradise Circus" video feat. Georgina Spelvin from The Devil in Miss Jones" a few days ago, I'm not sure what I think of the song, but I like their marketing approach because I kept thinking about it. Enough to watch it again and listen more. It seems Massive Attack understands that their music is played in countless dungeons, whorehouse settings, various paid seductions or way behind Guy Ritchie fight scenes. That's good because knowing your audience is important. Unfortunately, it looks like there will be no sex or slow motion fight scenes in the new James Cameron vehicle, so you won't be hearing Massive Attack there.

I was going to restate and rant about the obvious brilliance of 2 Tone, Jerry Dammers, Terry Hall, etc. but now I'm going to insist you check out Ninja Assassin. Had to make the 11:15 Early Bird Special. Very Hot & we breezed right past those suckers waiting for Avatar. Nice volley by the Wachowski Brothers(?). The holiday movie that makes me see vivid, gory, Santa red!!! Bloody good, mate & a total classic.

Vuelta A Espana Podium Girl Love/Hate Relationship

Today Anthony Roux, French, won today's stage in the Vuelta. This is a really significant stage win for me because first he gave some flowers to the first podium girls and then proceeded to spray the next podium girls with champagne in a very stripper like way. The best part is they just stood there like nothing weird was happening. A gentleman and an idiot?! Now George Hincapie married a former podium girl, so that's a different kind of degradation, but I've never seen a rider intentionally spray the podium babes. The Vuelta also boasts even BETTER looking chicks than the Giro de Italia podium girls, who were upskirt hotties. A much higher incidence of brunettes for sure but no upskirt shots yet. If I find a picture of Roux spraying the tank topped podium girls (sorry y'all, black tank tops, not white), I promise to revise!!

I don't really care about Maria Sharapova or Nike, but I like shoes. Not as much as I used to, but I like me some quality shoes. So I'm a little fluttery inside about Maria Sharapova for Cole Haan. I'm more of a Camper type of gal, but I'll take the Air Tall Milano Boot. The price point is a little high and in and of themselves, the line isn't ground breaking in design, but a style conscious dresser makes it look good. With the resurgence of "shopping in your own closet", good accessories are essential. If they came in grey, I wouldn't be waiting to seeing them at Nordstrom's Rack.

Oh and I haven't been posting much since my calendar has been just TERRIBLE since August. It'll all be easier, oh... around the beginning of next year but I'll still be posting when I'm slacking off.

I fully enjoyed The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard. Jeremy Piven has redeemed himself from Smokin' Aces by letting Temeculan Ari Gold have his own movie. Rob Riggle, Buster Bluth, Ving Rhames, James Brolin & Will Ferrell are great & genuine participants in a well rounded & high-larious ensemble cast. I also appreciated the respectful approach to hustlers, strippers, smoking on planes & non glamorous DJ work. The return of the R rated, blue collar comedy did not come a moment too soon. It's great to see Neal Brennan, Chappelle Show writer/collaborator and funny guy, cranking out some good material. This movie's roots are easily identifiable in Used Cars, an R rated blue collar comedy starring Curt Russell.

Bonus Round: Distict 9 was equally great but obviously in a different way. Peter Jackson & Neill Blomkamp have triumphantly made sci fi widely relevant & not just cautionary. The doc style turned fugitive action movie was funny, ironic & truthful. The plot was multi layered (as was The Goods), moving & without a typically happy ending (as was The Goods).

I believe both will have long, happy lives re running forever on cable TV & eternally being Bit Torrent-ed.

Super Bonus Round Preview: Extract. I love Mike Judge and Jason Bateman. I'm seriously hoping for the Office Space of manufacturing in this movie.
