I Don't Love New York?

As I sit here w/ my coffee & a l'il toke while I watch the Pride Parade, I try to figure out why I have mixed feelings about New York legalizing "it" before California. I've come to the conclusion it's embarrassment that we didn't do it first. "It's Raining Men" isn't part of New York's top 5. San Francisco is gay Christmas every day, all the time. But SF is not California. Since envy is a bitter and dangerous pill, I'm letting it go and thanking New York for illuminating the way for every gay couple to experience the beautiful love story, with its related joys and baggage, called "marriage" that all us "lucky" and "clear headed" heteros have been enjoying since some white guys who were the only ones allowed on the scene, legislated it as such.



P.S. If you know why Michelle Meow is the superior "local celebrity" choice for hosting the SF Pride telecast, I'd love to hear why.

Note:  I wrote this about 2 weeks ago, ( but added the Venn diagram today) but decided not to publish it because I seriously thought the bile would neutralize itself.   Guess not, so here it is.

What's all this noise about an Islamic Community Center going up in Manhattan? It's a community center & it's not on Ground Zero. Even if it was, why would it matter? Manhattan is such a melting pot of people and some of them are Muslim. We don't give Warren Jeffs nearly as much shit, and he hasn't eaten nearly enough shit. I'm liking that the Veterans seem to get it.  Liking it A LOT that the dancers get it.  It appears that our thinly veiled "tolerance" is giving way to fear and ignorance at an alarming rate. The notion that the President is Muslim is an egregious show of fear and bull shit.  I know the middle class is frightened to death the changing norms, like so much sand slipping through their fingers, but an Islamic Community Center does not a terrorist make.  Nor does a President who upholds the right to worship & chooses to worship quietly. Why should the citizens dictate the appropriate way for any President, or other citizen, to worship?  Emotion can not strangle a Constitutional right.

It appears that the prayer space is already there. The pending construction is to expand what's already there with a  community space, a swimming pool and other common features that provide needed services in an urban environment.

It seems the change is coming too rapidly for most, and not fast enough for some.   There's a lot of shit going on but this is not the time to lose our cool, people...if that's even possible.  The other thing that's puzzling to me is the lack of support for stimulating the economy.  The Cordoba Initiative already owns the building, the plans have been approved.  There's enough support for this idea that they were able to purchase a 5 story building on Park Ave.  Now they would like to use the building they bought.  So simple.
