Show Review: Hot Hot Heat, the 22-20's. Hey Rosetta - 8/19/10

Hey Rosetta is a quietly intense band from Canada that features a violin and cello.  They should turn the string section up because I think they sounded good, but would have been better with louder strings.  Otherwise, I thought they were Irish. Mainly because there was a guy in the audience who was so fucking stoked to be seeing this band, it reminded me of the first time I saw Keyboard Cat.  He got a few pints of Guinness down before asking for an autograph on his 7".  I love his enthusiasm & the zeal these micks & their fans exhibit.

The 22-20's didn't play enough of their songs featured on foreign commercials that are very catchy, indeed.  They did play the songs from their new record "shake/shiver/moan".  This is the much anticipated follow up material to their initial outing of raw, excitable blues. Then they broke up. Then they got back together after having real jobs as stated in this interview/performance on UStream.  Now various & sundry members are back to tear it up stateside.  And boy did they!  The room was quivering with their rollicking, mildly dark, kinda sleezy blues. Picks:  Ocean, Bitter Pills, shake/shiver/moan.

I have to say hearing Hot Hot Heat live was like pouring medium size chunks of  broken glass into my ears.  The singer's voice is so ill angled & well projected, it can't get into my ear holes.  Which stops me from hearing the rest of  the music.  I know this is an unpopular position according to crowd response, so I'll just quit talking about it.

And now the Codger's View: I could not be less amused when a club uses a smoke machine for "effect". I loved smoking in bars/clubs so much. I like it when I'm the smoke machine. The smoke machine did not make this show better. Make up your mind.

Newsflash: Psychedelics Possibly Promote Mental Health!!

Blotter pic boosted from erowid.org. (a great site, btw)

Boy was I excited when I found out psychedelics are making a pop psychology come back.  Though I wouldn't quite call it a come back...since some of us never left. It's fab that now falling into a K hole is healing the old brizane, not hurting it.  Something to be desired, not feared.  Without psychedelics, I think the world could be worse. It's really those who can't handle their scandal that largely give the non stimulants a bad name.  I also found it particularly interesting that the spooks were so interested dosing LA's water supply.

Let the games begin.  I'm right here, waiting for my mental health.  Bring it!!

No One Had Their Damn Phone Out?

View more news videos at: http://www.nbcnewyork.com/video.

Incredibly, there are tons of clips about razor sharp flight attendants giving the floatation device speech but not one id-jut had their dumb phone out to record something ACTUALLY doing something? This guy's "I quit this bitch" has been heard and applauded around the world and of course it would take less than 24 hrs. to do a CGI re-enactment. I only wish two beers had been grabbed in the re-enactment. My excitement for Steven Slater's antics can only be overtaken by these transcripts from 4chan's Founder, Chris Poole at a Federal Hearing. The 'tween in me is ROFL-ing and sexting at the SAME damn TIME. Rickrolling. Classic.

Prettymuch all this culled from Gawker.com.

Did Morpheus Want Montana To Take the Green Pill?

For starters, I'm going to point out the obvious. The name "Montana" is a porn name. It's a name you give yourself. Like Tiffany, Crystal and Nikki.

So Morpheus is super pissed because his adult daughter has a sex tape. I stumbled across this while looking for a scene from Mad Men or La Dolce Vita & it made me wonder if Morpheus didn't see the sex tape coming? Well, hey...who of us is a mind reader? I guess the thing that surprises me most is that she didn't try a singing career first & then released this to boost sales. Ok. Good strategy. Vivid knows no one has money right now to buy a DVD AND a record, so this goes straight to release (so to speak, har har). Or maybe she doesn't sing. Anyway, good plan.
