I Don't Love New York?

As I sit here w/ my coffee & a l'il toke while I watch the Pride Parade, I try to figure out why I have mixed feelings about New York legalizing "it" before California. I've come to the conclusion it's embarrassment that we didn't do it first. "It's Raining Men" isn't part of New York's top 5. San Francisco is gay Christmas every day, all the time. But SF is not California. Since envy is a bitter and dangerous pill, I'm letting it go and thanking New York for illuminating the way for every gay couple to experience the beautiful love story, with its related joys and baggage, called "marriage" that all us "lucky" and "clear headed" heteros have been enjoying since some white guys who were the only ones allowed on the scene, legislated it as such.



P.S. If you know why Michelle Meow is the superior "local celebrity" choice for hosting the SF Pride telecast, I'd love to hear why.

Quentin Tarantino PWNS Jan Wahl

You have probably already seen this, but I like it so I'm posting it. Jan Wahl's contract was not released in 2009 with KRON 4. That's a San Francisco station and she used to come on every week during the evening news and it was always awful. Her thing was hats. Well her thing was really being a movie critic but she was the San Francisco movie critic with "crazy" hats. Both her hats and her critiques, sucked. So I'm really glad Quentin goes for it while he appears to be on a stimulant.

I'm not a sports fan, but girl fights are the Sport of Kings. Look at how the camera person moves all the way around the floor. I applaud him or her for the persistence of the camerawork. I've been in that Mickey D's and it's pretty small. My personal fave highlights: Of course, the yellow thong, the boob shot at the end and the guys who get involved the riot. It also gets special mention for the sheer LENGTH. This is no tiff. It kinda goes on for awhile. So much for the Newy Scruggs Theory. Sorry Newy, you've been pwned. These are the true San Franciscans. Get between them and their right to fast food and it's on like Donkey Kong.

Hey Rosetta is a quietly intense band from Canada that features a violin and cello.  They should turn the string section up because I think they sounded good, but would have been better with louder strings.  Otherwise, I thought they were Irish. Mainly because there was a guy in the audience who was so fucking stoked to be seeing this band, it reminded me of the first time I saw Keyboard Cat.  He got a few pints of Guinness down before asking for an autograph on his 7".  I love his enthusiasm & the zeal these micks & their fans exhibit.

The 22-20's didn't play enough of their songs featured on foreign commercials that are very catchy, indeed.  They did play the songs from their new record "shake/shiver/moan".  This is the much anticipated follow up material to their initial outing of raw, excitable blues. Then they broke up. Then they got back together after having real jobs as stated in this interview/performance on UStream.  Now various & sundry members are back to tear it up stateside.  And boy did they!  The room was quivering with their rollicking, mildly dark, kinda sleezy blues. Picks:  Ocean, Bitter Pills, shake/shiver/moan.

I have to say hearing Hot Hot Heat live was like pouring medium size chunks of  broken glass into my ears.  The singer's voice is so ill angled & well projected, it can't get into my ear holes.  Which stops me from hearing the rest of  the music.  I know this is an unpopular position according to crowd response, so I'll just quit talking about it. 

And now the Codger's View: I could not be less amused when a club uses a smoke machine for "effect". I loved smoking in bars/clubs so much. I like it when I'm the smoke machine. The smoke machine did not make this show better. Make up your mind.

Two Great Things That Taste Great Together

I was very excited to see this clip that combines two of my favorite viral videos, second only to the awe inspiring 30 Stockton Bus Fight (the Street Fighter 2 - Chun Li Remix). It seems appropriate to kick off the holiday season. BTW, can you believe they're trying to push Christmas on me already? Feh... Pride Month 1.0

last night @ the Fresh Meat Reception @ the LBGT Center I got my picture taken to represent the community. Apparantly it had something to do with my shoes & my sparkling personality. And although no set of letters accurately describes me, it's an honor to "represent"! Just ask my man who couldn't figure out which bathroom to use. I said "all of them". Upon his return he said he "got lucky" & I said "I'm going to get that last piece of cake". True story.

Oh and the accidental death of David Carradine is not negatively impacting the community according to the buzz.

BTW, did you know they added a new letter to the LBGT mix? It's "Q" in question is for QUESTIONING. I am definitely a questioning being, but perhaps not in the way it's proposed. SSSShhh. Don't tell anyone.

Academy Awards 3.0

Here's the traditional celebratory sheet cake we obtained for the 2009 Academy Awards. Thank God the cake was right!! The cake told me that the bakers at Costco will print verbatim, whatever is written on the order. It also told me Costco bakers are not homophobic.

BTW, EARLY VOTING in San Francisco: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. San Francisco City Hall.

Oh, and I'll bet I didn't tell you that my Dad is actually voting Democratic this year!! I think it's because he now has a Grandchild AND a retirement plan. Awesome.

I'm seriously thinking Chris' elimination was as political as any decision I've checked this year. Even the fashion world isn't ready to adore a loud, large, SF-phile, Beach Blanket Babylon alumni. There's only so much room at the mid-level that the fashion-ati will allow these designers to dwell and Alber Elbaz is already at the tippy @ Lanvin.
