See You On the Other Side

Farewell Albert Hofmann. At a 102 I hope your life was all you wanted it to be. Your happy accident made me who I am today. Thanks for the memories and all the other lessons I've learned. Know that you made a difference. A great difference.

        Austria...What. The. Fuck.

Listen. I know people have problems. I so get it. But Josef Fritzl takes the fucking cake. This guy is evil and what?...He's from Austria? You know, the History Channel told me about this kind of weirdness around WWII...in what country? I would have only more surprised if this happened in Florida. Cancel my subscription because I'm done w/ Austria's issues. No one can tell me some very frightening collusion is not going on there. The family allegedly lived in an APARTMENT building. The more you read about this Sick Fuck, the more you can really condone execution style shootings. At this time, he can only be jailed for 15 years. Whatever. Maybe his old ass should live in his cellar if no one's going to just assassinate this fucker.

Also screw you American media for not covering this terrible story. Please, let's hear more about Miley Cyrus.

          Achilles' Heal

Hey. It's been a while I know, but a matter of import has occurred. According to Wiki: "An Achilles’ heel is a fatal weakness in spite of overall strength, actually or potentially leading to downfall."

My Brother snapped his Achilles tendon and I've been trying to help. Mainly by cooking meals & driving. Since I like to actually cook, I have been. I'm not above buying big and frozen things from CostCo, but I'm trying to put it off for as long as I can. I think that moratorium ends tonight. I'm wearing down, but it's because I'm tired/lazy, not because there are unreasonable demands are being imposed on me.

How does one snap an Achilles tendon? Ewwww... Racquetball. No, he doesn't play racquetball and I guess this proves it. Couldn't he just put a down payment on a red sports car like every other mid-life crisis? Actually, no. Since the kid just turned two, I see he couldn't.

              Movie Move Me

Saw STREET KINGS and THE RUINS yesterday. Both were surprisingly great & good respectively!

Street Kings is an adaptation of a James Ellroy novel that I haven't read, but certainly would. I love LA-shooting-big-guns-random-killing-cool-cars-bad-cops-good-criminals-fuck-you-Captain! (you could also switch around most of those words & I'd like it) movies. I thought the downside of this movie would be Keanu Reeves, and it sorta was, but only because that's how the role was written. The upside was the script and seeing House MD in it. He was very House. I don't even care that much about House MD, but it's like seeing a friend from Washington when you're on a totally unrelated trip to New York. They don't belong there, but you're pleasantly surprised to see them. And you want to have a beer. Jay Mohr's agent must be the same as Howie Mandell's for landing that role. Oh and Forrest Whittaker's in it. Best movie I've paid to see in months.

Aside: Who the fuck let Howie Mandell back in? I was shoveling dirt on his box when he suddenly turned up on TV again. He was effectively dead. WHY?? Yes. I'm emotionally using all caps. I have a Master's degree and I still don't understand Deal or No Deal. I don't pull the Master's card very often, but I just don't get the game OR the resurrection of Howie Mandell. Anyone?

On to The Ruins. Jena Malone has hit her stride as a young hottie & I'm glad. She's hot and believable. Ok, no nudity from her, but she's actually got some acting chops, and no "singing career", to fall back on. She's been in so many movies she deserves front and center for once. She deserved a better movie, but at least she's the lead. This is the first horror/thriller I've EVER seen about killer pot. Seriously. Ben Stiller produced so I believe he knows how funny the subtext is. Don't mess w/ local weed unless you are prepared to deal w/ a situation. This is typical Turistas like in terms of plot, but it's a killer twist on American travelling through other countries like it's their birth right. This movie like a chill combo of Love Potion and AK-47, but a little heavier on the AK-47.

Oh and happy Tax Day! May your returns be great and your economic stimulation be full of happy endings.

This was sent to me by a friend. I might have to reconsider who my friends are.

                  Back

My vacation without goals to Portland was awesome. I think that's probably why I keep going back. I also have a new (14 weeks!) niece there. She's uber cute. I'm also really glad I made the flight home because the airport bar got pretty comfy & by the time we got to the gate, EVERYONE had boarded. That hasn't happened to me since missing the arrival AND the departure to Kauaʻi. This time it actually worked out for me because I got bumped up a class. Yay!!

Came home to my honey, lots of work, and a bunch of e mails. I'm glad to be home but I always love me a little vacation.
